The Gaeaic Eon is the second eon of Alaria's history, spanning from the Ezz Rift approximately 12 million years ago through Hykravones the Shattering (~13,500 years ago, 10,209 BSD). It is named for Gaea, the Earth Mother, whose birth defined the age.
The Blooming of Celestia: 12 million years ago
The influx of Ezz transformed everything. The seed Celest had planted 11.5 million years before — that small pocket dimension — suddenly bloomed. Ezz accumulated around Celestia because it was the only structure in Alaria that resonated with Melera's song. The pocket dimension expanded into a full plane, peeling away from the Material Plane to become its mirror-image flip side.
This is why Celestia has its strange dual nature: its core is Celest's essence, but its substance is made of Ezz — which is why it reflects the thoughts and beliefs of the living.
The blooming of Celestia also threaded a third strand into the fabric of death. Lyzaria had defined the original two — soul to the Astral Plane, shadow to Malstaris. Now, with Celestia a full plane resonant with Ezz and spirit, a third channel opened: the spirit, that emotional aspect born of Ezz itself, could pass sideways into Celestia rather than dissolving. The architecture of mortality Lyzaria built was complete.
Gaea is Born: 12 million years ago
Many creatures died with the titans, but many survived, acclimating to the new Ezz-infused atmosphere. This new planar atmosphere became the substrate in which psyic energy could flow. From this arose Gaea, the Earth Mother. Her magic came from the psyic energy of Alaria, which she channeled through a language she named Kethic.
Gaea created all manner of life — mammoths of the northern plains, dinosaurs of the eastern jungles, scorpions in the deserts, giant rocs soaring across the skies. She also bore three sons: Nagatayora, the First Dragon; Ulvma, the First Wolf; and Shara Bolasi, the First Lion, who became her protectors.
Intelligent life was absent except for the druids.
The Druids: 12 million years ago
Along with Gaea came the druids — an ancient race so in touch with nature that they were believed to be incarnations of the wilderness itself. They built small villages wherever there was life, tending the land and working powerful magic. Their magic is neither Kethic nor Deoric but something older and stranger: Faesong, the emotion-and-harmony face of Ezz — Melera's imprisoned song, still leaking into the world since the Rift tore it open. It is no blend of the other sources but a current of its own: the druids hear the melody running under all creation and harmonize with it, yet no druid commands it. They attune; they do not own.
Although the druids never die of natural causes, they have slowly been killed off over time, such that only a few reside in Alaria today.
