Geography

Terrenia occupies the northwestern reaches of Aboyinzu, a region of temperate states stretching from the coast down to the Crystal Mountains. This is the gateway to the continent—the first landfall for ships crossing from the Shacklands or Free Isles, and the most "civilized" portion of Aboyinzu.

Boundaries and Position

  • North: Coastal waters separating Aboyinzu from the Shacklands; the Free Isles lie further west
  • East: Transitions into Central Aboyinzu and the vast interior
  • South: Bordered by the Crystal Mountains, which separate Terrenia from the southern regions
  • West: Western coastline facing the open ocean

States (North to South)

  • Aal Salma: The northwesternmost state of Terrenia
  • Windor: South of Aal Salma
  • Green Mountains: A small mountain range separating Windor from Poum Titch
  • Poum Titch: South of the Green Mountains
  • Chaal Nazzerox: A massive state stretching from the east coast all the way to the west coast, positioned north of the Crystal Mountains. This is one of the largest political entities in Aboyinzu.

Connection to Central Aboyinzu

East of Chaal Nazzerox lie Grustos and Quintas, two more states that serve as the transition zone between Terrenia and the interior regions around the Deadloop inner sea.

Climate

Terrenia's climate is temperate and coastal, moderated by ocean winds off the western sea. The northern coast—Windor and Aal Salma—stays cool and misty, with frequent fog and steady rain through winter. Further south, toward Poum Titch and Chaal Nazzerox, conditions warm and dry. The Crystal Mountains trap moisture on the northern slopes; the lands beyond them receive little of what the coast enjoys.

Seasons are distinct but not extreme. Summers are mild and pleasant. Winters are wet rather than brutal, except at elevation in the Green Mountains, where snow closes the passes from mid-autumn through late spring.

Political Climate

Terrenia functions as a gateway region—trade flows through it, and whoever controls the ports controls who enters and exits Aboyinzu from the west. The states cooperate on commerce and compete on everything else.

Aal Salma plays cautious broker, trading with all comers and committing to no one. Windor keeps its lowland villages prosperous and its mountain border fortified against the Green Mountains trolls. Poum Titch has historically been the most volatile, its internal factions cycling through alliances and disputes. Chaal Nazzerox, by sheer size, dominates the southern third of the region—more secure in its position but watchful of the passes that foreign armies might use.

No formal Terrenian council exists. Disputes between states settle through trade pressure, proxy conflicts, or occasional direct confrontation. The shared interest in maintaining access to the sea lanes usually prevents open war—but only usually.
