A basin nation ruled by the black dragon Tepheranos, squeezed between the Crags of Geth to the south and Argysis in the Kharvorn Mountains to the north. The population has been brainwashed over a century to see their dragon overlord as a savior rather than a tyrant.

Anarak is militaristic, isolated, and hungry for expansion—but locked in a standoff with Argysis, where Tepheranos's treacherous brother Rothogomos rules.

The Black Hills

A range of dark hills in the northern part of the basin, where Tepheranos makes his lair. The hills are considered the heart of Anarak's power—and its oppression.

The Dragon Feud

Anarak is the kingdom Tepheranos was driven to take after his brother cheated him. The two dragons invaded dwarven Argysis together; at the moment of victory Rothogomos seized the whole hoard and forced Tepheranos south, and the full account belongs to the Dragon Betrayal. What matters for Anarak is what came after. Tepheranos took the lesser prize and made it work, building a poor basin into a military state while Rothogomos sat on dead gold in the north.

The feud never resolved into a war. Neither dragon can move on a third target while the other waits at his back, so the two kingdoms hold a frozen standoff that has outlasted everyone who remembers it beginning. Anarak is the stronger and the hungrier, but it cannot spend that strength while Argysis stands fortified behind the passes.
