The White Hills are a low range of pale limestone and bleached sandstone that separate the western Sandreach foothills from the deeper desert interior. The white coloration comes from mineral-rich deposits that coat the rock faces and fill the dry creek beds, striking against the orange-brown terrain surrounding them, and visible from distance in the right light.
The Thrygun orcs have held the White Hills against competing groups for as long as anyone in the Sandreach can remember. They are not numerous, but the Hills' terrain, honeycombed with caves and defensible ridgelines, gives a determined defender significant advantages. The Thrygun do not farm; they raid adjacent territories and the trade routes that skirt the Hills' edge, bringing back what the land itself cannot provide.
The White Hills sit close enough to the Hills of Gezzeri that the two peoples are aware of each other. The Thrygun and the Gezzerin have reached an unspoken agreement of mutual avoidance: the Gezzerin have nothing worth raiding, and the Thrygun know better than to follow a Gezzerin into a cliff warren.
