The forest west of the Apelands and north of Seyiy takes its name from its dominant tree species—the bloodwood, a hardwood with deep red heartwood that bleeds crimson sap when cut.

Bloodwood timber is extraordinarily valuable:

  • Rot-resistant even in the wettest conditions
  • Fire-resistant to temperatures that would char ordinary wood
  • Beautiful when finished, with rich red grain patterns

The problem is harvesting it. Bloodwood forest sits between the Apelands to the north and the dangerous Seyiy highlands to the south. Logging expeditions must contend with ape incursions, the beasts of Seyiy, and the forest's own dangers. Most bloodwood that reaches markets comes from the Jungles of Titania in the Shacklands—a longer route but one with fewer forty-foot apes.
