Before any of that he was a sworn Pity Knight, of the order that hunted liches, and the king of the coral city of Thergon in the Whisper Isles. When he died and used the order's own lich-craft to refuse his death, he became the exact thing the Knights existed to end. They could not end him. They silenced his kingdom out from under him instead and drove him east, and what he raised on new ground is Chaal Nazzerox. The first army he ever commanded was the dead of Thergon, and Thergon stands silent and undead to this day.

He has no tolerance for dead that rise without a caster to hold them. When a Winter Elf named Mylanor rose masterless from the River of Wights and began commanding the lesser dead of the upper water, Xynoth sent his best thread-binder, Vazreth Sythrox, up the river to leash him and walk him home. The binding failed. Mylanor turned the working back on the binder, and Vazreth's own shadow now stands among the wight-lord's host on the Crimson Coast.
