Grønmar

Person

The last King of Argysis, who chose to break his own kingdom rather than let the dragons take it whole, and died beneath Othyndria.

Person

Grønmar was the last King of Argysis, and he died in its fall. He held the throne at Othyndria when the brother-dragons came, and he made the choice that shaped the whole war. Rather than treat, he ordered the holds defended one at a time and the deep roads collapsed behind each retreat, so the kingdom Rothogomos took would be worth as little as dwarven hands could make it. It cost him the kingdom and his life. He did not leave Othyndria. When Rothogomos tore the great hall open to reach the treasury, Grønmar was somewhere beneath it, and his bones are there still, under stone no one has moved in two hundred years.

That order is why Argysis is a hoard inside a corpse rather than a working conquest. The dwarves of Hephake keep Grønmar as the king who chose to be broken rather than ruled. The Shyka who now work the empty holds have their own name for the king who left them nothing, and it is not a kind one.
