South of Tyberoskos, where the Maun River meets the sea, Beauty Bay earned its name honestly. Something about the water's mineral content—runoff from the limestone sinkholes upstream—combined with the angle of the Pearly Mountains creates sunsets of extraordinary color. Oranges and purples that seem impossible, light that paints the water like oil on canvas.
Artists from Maun have painted Beauty Bay for centuries. Some claim watching the sunset from its shores inspires creativity; others say that's romantic nonsense, but they keep coming back anyway. The bay has become part of Maun's identity—the School of Music holds outdoor performances in a natural stone amphitheater on the eastern shore, timing finales to coincide with the sunset's peak.
The same minerals that color the light make the bay's water unsuitable for drinking but excellent for certain dye-making processes. Maun's theatrical costumes are famous partly for colors that can't be reproduced elsewhere—the bay's gift to the city that celebrates it.
