North of Umlas, Kumi Wood stretches from the foothills of the Pearly Mountains to the coast near the Bay of Lords. This ancient hardwood forest is sacred to both Petranos and Kethros—the earth that grows the trees and the craft that shapes them.
Every tree felled in Kumi Wood requires ritual permission. Foresters must petition the local temple, specifying which tree, for what purpose, and offering appropriate thanks to Petranos for the gift. This sounds like bureaucratic obstruction, but it actually ensures sustainable harvesting. Kumi Wood has been producing exceptional timber for centuries and shows no sign of depletion.
The wood itself is prized across Alaria. Kumi hardwood takes stain beautifully, resists rot, and—when worked by Xothic craftsmen invoking Kethros—holds minor enchantments well. Instruments made from Kumi wood are particularly valued; some say they never go out of tune.
Settlements in Kumi Wood tend to be small and focused on forestry or woodcraft. Ku'or, the largest, serves as the administrative center for lumber operations and hosts a major temple to Kethros.
