Vaznik worked in the Citadel of Flames in the late 3200s and the early 3300s SD, a natural-philosopher of the Firemage tradition rather than a priest. His interest was the leyline beneath the Old City, not the cathedral above it. He measured what the Corps' fire-attuned could do at different points over the leyline's course and argued, against the clergy, that the Evertorch needed no special account at all: it stood where the Fire leyline of Yolus runs nearest the surface, and a flame that sits on such a seam will burn as long as the seam does. Geology, he wrote, not miracle.
His treatise on the subject circulated in Corps copies and was never granted cathedral approval, which Vaznik appears to have taken as confirmation rather than rebuke. He is a minor voice, remembered mostly because the dispute he picked has not closed.
