Oblexan was a gnome of the Pelican Isles who spent her career doing fieldwork in the ruins left by the Lost Ages — a four-hundred-century gap in the written record that her contemporaries preferred to fill with mythology. She did not fill it with mythology. She measured wall thickness, dated mortar, catalogued inscriptions she could not read, and drew maps of building foundations buried under centuries of sediment. Her Material Survey of the Lost Ages is less a history than an argument: that physical evidence outranks every mythographic claim about the period, and that anyone who disagrees has not spent enough time in a ruin.

Her methodological stance is the defining feature of her work. Oblexan worships Ghet — the golem daemon, the animated stone figure who overthrew its master and became the bastion of freedom and truth — and she reads that worship as an epistemic commitment rather than a religious one. Truth requires freedom from received authority. She is famous for her dismissal of Erindath's Annals: "Three hundred years of what Craggus intended, from a man who never once asked for a bill of sale." She reserves equal contempt for Temavori's cosmogonic grief. Her own reconstructions are frequently dry, sometimes wrong in ways that physical evidence cannot catch, and occasionally brilliant.

Her era is the Lost Ages in their material dimension: the False God's reign, the Blight of Arcanus, the Dark Night, and the Oblivion Years. Of the Blight she wrote only what the ruins would support: workshops abandoned mid-task with the implements of the magical trades dropped where their owners fell, and over every such site a layer of sudden death across all who had practiced the old aetherial craft. The Material Survey records the wreckage and refuses to name its cause, holding that the Oblivion Years erased anything that could have dated the catastrophe. She is the primary voice for any claim about the built environment, the population distribution, and the material culture of that long silence. Her rejection of oral tradition is her greatest blind spot — she has no framework for events that left no ruins.
