Shak Shak

Daemon

Domains: pyre, oath, fire-tattoo memory; current cohort; pan-goblin patron of the scar that keeps a promise.

Type
Daemon

Domains: Pyre and pact, fire-tattoo memory, oath kept in living ink.

Era of ascension: Great Expansion (~4,200 BSD). Cohort: current. Shak Shak accreted across two centuries as goblin tribes from Lyoki Ingi Ingi south through the Copper Hills and the Melrox archipelago independently arrived at the same theological device — that a vow held in the skin outlasts a vow held in the mouth.

Worshipped by: The Stravlar, who run the institutional form of the rite (the tattoo-archive). The Mudzwiti, Darkling, Rudding, Xibli, Scalawag, Aciabro, Blitzling, Etherweaver, Spine, and Wydling goblin lineages in their own dialects of the practice. The Coghead Kobuk extend his rite onto bodies that did not consent to it — a reading the wider goblin world calls corrupted. The Rudding justicars read his name as the patron of every kept ledger. The Dwarblin carry him forward alongside a dwarven forge-patron; the syncretism is old. (The worships edge is authored downstream on the worshipper, not here.)

His shape is the pyre with hands at its edge. A goblin learns to write standing over coals, because the inkwell is iron and the ink will boil if you set it down. Stravlar mourn a scar as they mourn a death; his gift is recorded only on skin that is still being lived in, and a closed wound has stopped writing. Where Sainu wants the cruelty itself, Shak Shak wants the record — a kept oath, in his theology, is just the slowest possible sentence.
