Mudzwa

Daemon

Domains: raptor-hunt, jungle canopy, the pact between rider and beast; current cohort; Mudzwiti patron of the bonded bird.

Type
Daemon

Domains: Raptor-hunt, jungle canopy, the pact between rider and beast.

Era of ascension: Great Expansion (~3,400 BSD). Cohort: current. Mudzwa accreted as the Mudzwiti first carried young raptors down from the upper crowns by hand and fed them their first kills. The daemon is what filled the air between the rider's whistled signal and the bird's strike.

Worshipped by: The Mudzwiti goblins. Every fledgling brought down from its nest is named in his ear before it is named in any goblin's; the Mudzwiti believe the bird that is not named to him will not stoop. (The worships edge is authored downstream on the worshipper, not here.)

His piety is symbiotic, not lordly. A Mudzwiti who breaks a bird to obedience has not honored him — has insulted him. The rider who has earned a stoop has spent two years standing in the rain with a glove, and Mudzwa watched every hour of it. When a bonded raptor dies, the rider's grief-tattoo is cut on the inside of the bicep, where Shak Shak's heat is too dangerous to reach. Mudzwa's mark is older, and does not need fire.
