The island of Pii is dominated by Mount Kajiit, an active volcano whose geothermal vents and lava flows shape every aspect of life here. The Verucan who settled the island built their civilization around the mountain's energy rather than despite it—sinking forges deep into the volcano's flanks to achieve metalworking temperatures unreachable anywhere else on Alaria.

Phiora's three settlements—Doga, Kedari Emnath, and Mereiki—cluster on the island's more stable terrain, away from active lava flows. The quality of Verucan ironwork has made Pii a destination for smiths and merchants willing to accept the volcanic risk. Mount Kajiit is a presence in all aspects of Verucan life: their calendar tracks eruption cycles, their oaths invoke the mountain's patience, and their children learn early that the ground beneath Pii is borrowed time.

To the northeast, the small rocky island of Eir is visible on clear days but left alone. The Verucan consider it ill-omened—legend holds it was blown off during the ancient Kajiit eruption that triggered a volcanic winter lasting millennia. The island has no fresh water and no value, and the Verucan intend to keep it that way.
