The capital of Myorna, built into the Grey Mountains as a vertical city of stone. Carved chambers stack down the mountain face, and passages run from the lowest of them deep into the old warrens. Vad Ilghak holds the royal palace, the great memory libraries, and the Deoric library beneath them, one of the largest collections of sacrifice-based magical texts anywhere. The texts are the written half of a craft the Forbidden Valley powers; the city keeps the books, the valley keeps the engine.

Since the surface gates opened fifty years ago, the upper terraces have grown a trade quarter that did not exist before, where Sivakr factors deal with Alliance merchants and the old guard watches them do it. Whether to wall the city back up or to keep climbing toward the light is the argument Vad Ilghak has with itself.

The faith split runs through the city the way it runs through every Sivakr household. The state's ministries keep the sanctioned memory clean under Tiira, and the older underground cult of Xalvaakr keeps it whole and un-erased. Both live in the same stone. Speaking the wrong recollection in the wrong company is, in Vad Ilghak, an administrative matter with a procedure attached.
