The range runs roughly northeast to southwest, creating a natural barrier between the northern forests and the southern jungles.
The mountains hold Kyagos's true wealth: veins of silver, copper, and iron laced through the stone, pockets of gemstones that made the island's reputation, and deeper deposits that Drasnian miners have barely begun to tap. Mining operations cluster around the more accessible valleys, with the most lucrative shafts controlled by whichever city-state can hold them.
Travel through the Aktarvkus requires either expensive guides who know the passes, or acceptance that you're probably going to die. The Sylthik city-states maintain a few fortified routes between them, but these are jealously guarded and subject to tolls that make sea travel look economical despite Kyagos's dangerous coasts.
