The Senaveer Mountains rise northwest of Anu'Itiklik, a rugged barrier between the frozen wastes and the polar approaches. They are home to a large population of northern rocs—massive predatory birds that hunt the caribou herds in the eastern foothills. The mountains are rich with the lichen that feeds the caribou, so the Atowatowa herders journey there every spring, timing their arrival to avoid the rocs' nesting season.
The Senaveer range is notable for its unusual geology: veins of a dark crystalline mineral run through the rock, glittering faintly even in dim light. The Atowatowa consider these veins sacred and refuse to mine them. They call the substance itikwas—"frozen tears"—and believe it to be the condensed grief of spirits who could not complete their crossing into Celestia.
