The Stone Men are a reclusive human culture living in the inaccessible peaks of the Wurn Mountains. Their skin is gray and hard as rock, fixed that way in one leyline surge generations ago. They are serious, blunt, and pragmatic, valuing action over words.

They herd sheep on perilous cliffs and defend their flocks from mountain lions with their bare hands. To a Stone Man, a problem that cannot be solved by hitting it hard is not a problem worth solving. Their communities are small, isolated, and fiercely independent, welcoming visitors rarely but treating them fairly when they do.

The making

Their skin did not harden by living among the rocks, whatever the lowland saying claims. It hardened in a day. The Wurn range sits over a vein of the Earth leyline, the channel that runs up from the Elemental Plane of stone, and once that vein broke its banks. A founding community caught in the surge was flooded with the raw force of the stone-plane, and the force did to their flesh what it does to loose ground: it set. Those who lived came out gray and stone-hard, the change fixed in them and bred true in the children after, and the Stone Men have carried it down every line since. They keep to the high peaks above that same vein and give their prayers to Drevun, whom they hold answerable for the day the mountain came up through their skin.
