The Qindo are a human culture of sailors and charmers, distinguished by their bluish skin and piercing sapphire eyes. They live life at their own pace, notoriously running "Qindo time" (always late), but their infectious charm means no one stays mad at them for long.

They are masters of the sea and social navigation. A Qindo considers anything not nailed down to be potentially theirs, out of a communal view of property rather than malice, a view that conveniently benefits them. Their port cities are chaotic, colorful affairs where the line between merchant and pirate is delightfully blurred.

The making

The blue did not come from the sea, whatever the Qindo tell their customers. It came from a bargain. Generations back their founders struck a deal with one of the sea-daemons they still pray to, trading worship for the deep's own favor: a promise that their crews would read water and weather the way a fish does and never drown. The daemon fixed the mark into their flesh and then, in the way of daemons, delivered nothing else. The skin came up blue, the eyes came up sapphire, both bred true from that day, and the favor the bargain was meant to buy never arrived. The Qindo wear the sign of a gift they never got, which may be why they have spent every generation since taking by hand what the sea declined to hand over.
