Mariseni heads the foremost of the banking houses that govern Adron. The houses have ruled as a body since the Wyrmward ended, and Adron keeps a crown only in the sense that it sits with whichever house stands first; just now that is hers. The title is solid enough to sit on and ornamental enough that no one in Adrak mistakes it for where the power is. The power is in the Royal Adrak Bank's ledgers and in the debts half the Middle Sea owes her.
Her line runs back to the leadership of the Waterdark order, the Nagashi who cut the dragon-bonds at the Severing and then gave up the order's shadow-arm to the kingdom's judgment to keep themselves clean. Four centuries on, the killing-cells that descend from those exiles still reckon her house as the one that sold their founder, and the affront has never gone cold. Mariseni does not trade on dragons the way the older houses do, forever polishing a memory of beasts no living Nagashi has ridden. She lends, she collects, and she keeps the family's oldest accounts in a strongroom no auditor has been allowed to open.
