Atlangsow is the western and largest of the three Uline holds of Vogenfeld, some five thousand dwarves living inside a single mountain above the Pass of Oaths, the road between the empire and the Wildwood. It is the seat of the Council of Thanes, which gathers here more often than at Kaisa or Glashof, and it was at the pass below its gates that the Vogenfeld Pact was struck five centuries ago.
The great gates are the hold's pride and its standing argument. They have never been forced, not by orc assault out of Hedroscobb nor by any siege in five hundred years, and the dwarves treat that unbroken record as their answer to anyone in Tarkhetan who wonders aloud what the empire still pays Vogenfeld for. Behind the gates the tunnels run miles into the rock: forges, living halls, mushroom farms, and the deep galleries where a fallen dwarf's name is first drafted before it is carved into the monuments out on the pass.
