Faesummer

Event

The long warm phase when Aurus drifts near the Material boundary and the creatures of the Astral Plane spill down into Alaria.

Faesummer is the warm pole of the slow drift of Aurus, the White Sun. As the dissolved titan-god wheels nearer the Material boundary on his long cycle, his light and warmth strengthen across the world, and the Astral Plane presses close enough that its creatures can cross down and survive in the lower air. It is not a season of the calendar year but a phase of that drift, lasting while the Sun rides near and ending when it withdraws.

While it lasts, the creatures of light come forth. Faeries, Sprites, Nymphs, and the rest of the Astral kind dot Alaria, spreading warmth and a running undercurrent of chaos and confusion wherever they wander. They are not of this world's forests and they answer to nothing in them — least of all to the Queen of the Forest, who rules the true fae of the deep reservoirs and holds no claim on a child of Aurus.

The season takes its name from a mistake. These light-beings can hear Faesong, Melera's emotion-current, the same melody the forest fae are made of — and mortals, seeing small luminous things that plainly heard the song abroad in the warm months, took them for fae and named the warm tide after them. The faeries hear the song; they are not the song. The name has outlasted the error by an age.
