A cluster of hot springs in eastern Blyss, where geothermal vents heat the water to near-boiling. Steam rises constantly, creating a microclimate of fog and warmth that cuts through the usual humidity. The pools "breathe"—water levels rise and fall in slow cycles that take hours to complete, as pressure builds and releases in the underground system.

The pools are sacred to local tribes, used for coming-of-age rituals and the treatment of certain illnesses. Outsiders are not welcome. The last expedition to reach the Breathing Pools—a Shyonan scholarly party in 3,289 SD—was found three weeks later, bones scattered across a wide area, their notes and specimens vanished.
