At the center of the Sea of Sharks lies Survivor's Island—home to the city-state of Teku. The inhabitants are descendants of refugees whose ships were destroyed here; they couldn't leave, so they learned to survive.
Teku has developed techniques for existing in shark waters:
- Metal-reinforced hulls that resist shark teeth
- Chemical compounds that discourage shark approach
- Trained shark-hunters who control the population around the harbor
- Knowledge of shark behavior that lets them predict relatively safe windows
Reaching Teku requires crossing shark-infested waters. Most ships hire Teku pilots who know the patterns; others simply sail fast and hope.
