Where the Twilight River meets the bay, the land flattens into a broad coastal marsh known as Octavus Marsh. The marsh extends several miles inland, a maze of channels, reed islands, and waterlogged forest.

The marsh is the closest thing to neutral ground in this region. The ulvsjael don't hunt here—the terrain is poor for their coordinated pack tactics, and the footing is treacherous even for wolves. This makes the marsh one of the few places where small parties might make landfall without immediate pursuit.

However, the marsh has its own dangers. The waters are home to large eels and aggressive snapping turtles. Quicksand-like patches of saturated peat can swallow the unwary. And while the ulvsjael don't hunt in the marsh, they do watch its edges. Emerging onto solid ground often means emerging into an ambush.
